BGLS Happenings
By Mary Rene Smith, BGLS
President
The first meeting of the year will be a social-type, food and party thing at my house. Contact me for the address. The gathering will begin at about 6 pm on Saturday, August 29th. Don't worry about bringing anything except maybe tall tales about your summer adventures. The regular meetings will begin mid-September. I'll be sure and send out a mail and post fliers all over after I can firm up the time and place with the Union.
There is some really exciting stuff coming up in the next few months for BGLS. Here a brief summary of some of the stuff we can look forward to in the coming months.
For the first time BGLS will be included in the campus and city Racial/Ethnic
Harmony Week during the first week of October. This is a wonderful opportunity
to join other groups in the area in celebrating the diversity in our area.
Once again BGLS will co-sponsor with the Union Program Council and
have a lesbian comedian coming to campus in early October. Last year we
brought Elvira Kurt and had over 100 people enjoy stand-up comedy.
BGLS is also planning on looking into what it would take to get domestic partner benefits for Lafene Health Center, the Rec Complex and other campus activities. KU has secured such benefits on their campus and have offered to help us get the same rights here.
There are also a number of conferences and workshops in the area that BGLS members will be interested in.
I look forward to seeing everyone Saturday, August 29th. There will be a few reminders going out between now and then. If anyone has any questions or is interested in getting and early start on any of the projects above give me a call.
The schedule for the fall meetings is set but BGLS needs to firm up
the meeting dates and times with the K-State Student Union, which is currently
being renovated. See upcoming issues of the Observer for complete
meeting times!
