The Speakers

Dr. Rankin is the author of “Campus Climate for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgendered Students, Faculty, and Staff: Assessment and Strategies for Change” and “Heterosexism and Campus Violence: Assessment and Inter-vention Strategies.”

Kelly Brown is currently in solo private practice in Topeka,  KS, as of May, 1997.  Her major areas of practice are Sexual Orientation, Gender/Transition, and HIV law with associated Domestic, Probate, Contract, Bankruptcy, and Mental Health legal issues; she continues to include Veterans’ and Social Security disability law.

Corinna Beck is developing at proposal for a queer studies program at the University of Kansas

Dr. Mary Bloodsworth teaches Lesbian and Gay Studies and Philosophy of Sex at WSU and has published several essays and articles on sexuality, the body, and philosophy.

Brenda Lea Mayberry is a Ph.D. candidate at KSU in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, with an emphasis in multicultural issues.   Her research areas include harassment, sexual harassment, and  women.  She also serves as the President of  Manhattan and KSU NOW chapter.

Christine Robinson is a doctoral student at KU.  Her  workshop is designed to help others who are attempting to have their colleges and universities include “sexual orientation” and “gender identity” in their anti-discrimination policies.

David Brown, long-time friend to the lesbigay community, has a general legal practice in Lawrence, Kansas,  specializing in non-traditional family law, divorce and custody, appeals, criminal and traffic, wills and living wills, and trusts.

Kathy Greenlee is an attorney and also serves as a member of the Freedom Coaliton Coordinating Council in Lawrence, which she recently served as President.

Chris Taylor is a student at WSU and co-author of “Coming Out in the Classroom: A Plan for Acceptance," a paper presented at the annual Midwest Sociological Society meeting in Kansas City, MO.

Dr. Gail Cohee is an Assistant Professor of English at ESU and Co-editor of the journal, Feminist Teacher.  Her specialty areas are women’s studies and Renaissance literature.

Robert Minor is Professor of Religious Studies at the Universityof Kansas where he has taught over twenty years and was Department Chair for six.  Bob has led workships on gender roles, homophobia, and racism for universities, colleges, churches and religious groups throughout the midwest as well as workshops for non-heterosexuals on personal growth beyond “coming out.”

Gayle Reece has a master’s degree in Higher Education and is currently employed as a campus law enforcement officer at KU.  Ms. Reece presents lectures and workshops on hate and bias crimes.

Charlene Smith was instrumental in the preparation of the amicus curie  brief to repeal the Kansas “sodomy” statute.  Professor Smith is also a  co-author of a proposal to establish domestic partner benefits for  same-sex couples at Washburn University.

Bill Roach is a co-author of a proposal to establish domestic partner  benefits for same-sex couples at Washburn University.

Lisa Braun is a student and Student Senator at the University of Kansas.  Senator Braun is gathering national data on ROTC discrimination on college and university campuses in the US
and the institutional responses to discrimination.
